Temperature behavior
The well-known power-hungry system (Ryzen 9 3900X RTX 3070 Ti) was again used to determine the temperature behavior. The standard case fans were used, and a Raijintek Orcus 360mm AIO was used to cool the CPU.
General conditions
- Room temperature: 21.2°C
- Case fans fixed: 800 rpm
- AIO fans fixed: 800 rpm
- AIO pump fixed: 2800 rpm
CPU Torture
Cinebench R23 was again used in the loop for the CPU Torture test. After a short warm-up phase, the temperature of the AIO’s coolant stabilized and the measurement could begin. With an average temperature of approx. 80°C, the CPU ran at approx. 4000 MHz on all 12 cores for the entire duration of the test, which was slightly below the last tested (much more expensive) Airflow monsters.
Gaming
In the gaming test, however, the temperatures looked okay again. Once again, Borderlands 3 was used, which kept the CPU moderately busy and continuously pushed the graphics card to its power limit – a typical gaming workload. While the graphics card ran straight to its temperature target of ~72°C as usual and stayed there, the clock rate remained nailed down at 1905MHz. The hotspot was also in the green zone with an average of 85°C.
The CPU temperature was in the green zone in the gaming test. Although the AIO was configured as an exhaust and therefore had to dissipate practically all of the waste heat from all components, including the hot-headed 3070 Ti, the temperatures were in the region of just 57°C.
Interim conclusion
In terms of temperatures, the Ponos Ultra falls slightly short of the significantly more expensive cases tested recently, but still offers a decent airflow for the money. The installed ARGB fans, which are also not PWM-controlled, turn up slightly audibly at the speed of approx. 800 rpm used in the test, but provide a noticeable airflow in the case. Silent fans will probably not necessarily be happy with the fans from Raijintek, but the consequences of the red pen must be noticeable somewhere.
