AMD today announced that it will deliver on its promise to bring support for ROCm and other machine learning and development features to its customer-facing products within the RDNA 3 GPU family. Last month, the company introduced support for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and Radeon PRO W7900 GPUs, and is now expanding the offering to include the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which is one class below.
Like the other two solutions, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has a large memory of 20 GB and a total of 168 AI acceleration units on the Navi 31 chip. This provides fast and efficient performance for the training and inference of ML models. The GPU also supports PyTorch-based ML models and algorithms specifically optimized for AMD. It is compatible with the Linux operating system and runs under version 22.04.3 (Ubuntu).
We are excited about this latest addition to our portfolio. In combination with ROCm, these high-end GPUs make AI more accessible both from a software and hardware perspective, so developers can choose the solution that best fits their needs
Erik Hultgren, Software Product Manager at AMD
However, this is only an interim step, as AMD still offers a much wider range of GPUs within the RDNA 3 series for which consumers would like to see ROCm support. NVIDIA and Intel have already offered extensive support for compute on their GPUs with CUDA and the open-source Intel Compute Runtime, which supports the full range of Arc GPUs. AMD should continue to drive this momentum so that users of RDNA 3 GPUs can get the most out of their products.
Here you can download the driver “23.20.00.48 for Ubuntu 22.04.3 HWE”.
