The French company nPerf, based in Lyon, has a worldwide server network that is also optimized to measure your connection speed precisely. We have included the GUI ourselves on our homepage and have been using this service for our readers for years. Today’s study is based on tests conducted by users of the nPerf mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android. In the last two six months, after filtering, 131 118 unit tests were performed by nPerf app users.
The global breakdown of tests per provider is as follows:
The nPerf SpeedTest works with all broadband and mobile connections: ADSL, VDSL, cable, fiber FTTH / FTTB, satellite, Wifi, Wimax, cell connections 2G / 3G / 4G (LTE), 5G. For those who want to test for themselves: let’s go!
The nPerf study relies on many tests carried out each month by end-users of operators, which makes it a “crowdsourcing” study with an extensive panel of the country. These tests reflect the real experiences that the public has with the networks of different ISPs. The statistics are based on 17,205 tests conducted with 5G-enabled devices. A full list of 5G devices can be found on the nPer home page.
But what has the current 2023 study now revealed? In the past twelve months, Telekom in particular showed outstanding mobile Internet performance in Germany. Telekom thus holds the leading position in the German mobile Internet market, scoring over 100,000 nPerf points this year. This provider performed best in almost all metrics, with the exception of latency. Its performance remains stable over time, and its 5G performance is also excellent.
Telekom subscribers achieved a high average download speed in the last twelve months. A high speed is advantageous. Download speed shows the amount of data your connection can receive in one second from the nPerf server. A higher number indicates a better download speed of your connection.
Vodafone is a strong competitor of Telekom’s mobile offering and is only behind by less than 8,000 points. In terms of latency, Vodafone scores 32.21 ms, an impressive number, better than many of its competitors. Latency indicates the time it takes a small data packet to make a round trip from your computer to the nPerf server. Shorter latency indicates a more responsive connection. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms).
This year, O2 ranked the lowest in the survey. The provider was unable to keep up with other market players in many of the key figures examined.
Telekom recorded a high 5G connection rate in the last twelve months. The ratio of tests with 5G to the total number of cell phone tests was calculated for each provider. This index indicates the likelihood of being connected to 5G with a given provider.
