Connectivity
All the controls are on the right ear cup and there are four buttons and a volume wheel. On the edge of the ear cup is this large wheel, which by default controls the overall volume in PC mode and the game/chat mix in Xbox mode and unfortunately feels a bit cheap haptically. This wheel is also double assigned. It controls console or PC volume by default, but can also be remapped to control bass, sidetone, microphone sensitivity and more.
There is also a large button on the outside of the ear cup that can also be configured via the Turtle Beach app. It button cycles through ANC modes (ANC, Transparency, and Off) on one hand, and can also be held down to switch the wheel to a second parameter, such as Bluetooth source volume. This facilitates quick and easy control of two devices and saves fiddling with the smartphone in the middle of a game. By default, it is set to turn active noise cancellation (ANC) on and off.
On the bottom of the ear cup are buttons for SuperHuman listening mode (the ridged one), the power button, a Bluetooth button, and the small status LED. To mute the (detachable) boom microphone, you simply flip it up and out of the way. Beyond that, the Stealth Pro has another, integrated microphone. To mute this microphone as well, you hold down the SuperHuman listening button for at least two seconds. Incidentally, there is also an acoustic feedback for many of the button functions in the headset.
The base station with the fixed transmitter, which also fulfills the charging function, is connected to the PC or console. Funnily enough, the XBox version also works on the PS5, while the PS5 version doesn’t want to with the XBox. On the PC it works anyway, you just have to switch it manually. This station also allows you to use the second included USB-C cable to charge the headphones directly. But it is not a data cable, which then turns the headphones into USB headphones. This feature would have been the icing on the cake, though. Chance missed, unfortunately. Because it is technically possible, you just have to want it.
Underneath the microphone is a magnetic cover that hides the replaceable battery. This can be replaced with a fully charged battery if required. To replace the batteries, if the microphone is mounted, first remove the microphone, then the battery cover and finally the battery itself. It is not possible to change the battery during operation. If the battery is removed, the headset switches off. As soon as a new battery is inserted, it automatically turns on again. However, it still takes about seven seconds until the connection is re-established and the sound is played again.
Software on the PC and the app
The headset can be customized using the Turtle Beach Audio Hub V2 app. Within the app, there are Dashboard, Equalizer, Customize, and Hotkeys tabs. The Dashboard offers a combination of features and allows for quick adjustments to the gaming and microphone EQ presets, as well as active noise cancellation (ANC) and Superhuman Hearing mode. In the equalizer tab, there are subcategories for Bluetooth, gaming, and microphone. Selecting one of these categories allows you to adjust the equalizer in all these different modes. Apart from the many bugs in the voice localization, the whole thing worked quite well, including transmission to the headset.
The customize tab contains settings for the power supply, voice announcements and sound volume, as well as the functions for remapping the wheel and the button on the right ear cup. The functions can be customized differently for PC mode and console mode. With simultaneous Bluetooth connectivity, the Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app also allows you to control and customize the headset from your smartphone or tablet. All the customization options available in the PC app are also included in the mobile app. This allows for convenient and flexible control of settings, regardless of the device being used.
