Fan curve and operating noise
Let’s now turn to what is automatically produced when the waste heat is removed: various fan noises. The measurements in the measuring chamber are, as always, a bit tricky, because you can’t measure anything through the closed side window. so later I’ll manually set the fans to the values I measured while gaming and torturing in the closed case and leave the setup open. The 1500 rpm in 200 watt mode are barely audible. That is quite good for now. With OC, it is just under 1600 rpm, which still fits.
But what does the measurement for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 FE 12GB reveal then? I have analyzed the 200-watt variant here. You can see nicely from the frequency analysis how the sound carpet splits up. With 33.2 dB(A) in the gaming loop and 215 watts in Cyberpunk 2077, none of this is an issue, even though we can again see the harmonics of the coil and capacitor buzz in the range from about 4 KHz.
Coil “Whining” Noise
Therefore, we still have to talk about one point, and that is once again the annoying coil whining. I already wrote in the measurement of the load peaks that the cards perform an extremely jittery happy dance, which you can also hear. Especially since the coils used are usable, but not extra class, and the six phases have to slave away properly. More about the topic can be found here, of course:
