Disassembling and cleaning the board
You can find out more about the correct order of disassembly in the article linked below. I’m assuming you’ve also read my videos and articles on the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090, so you already know the procedure. For all others: The two ribbon cables for the fans can be released by tilting the black levers at the end of the lock upwards. Please remove or lift off the thermal paste dry first and only later use some isopropanol sparingly for fine cleaning.
We can neglect the back, it does not need to be cleaned either.
Here again the procedure with description:

Mounting
This step is also not witchcraft, but a bag you should immediately lie far away again. This is the brown one with the “Bakplate” and the two 2mm pads. Please do not use them, they are not only useless, and superfluous, but a millimeter too thick. Well, there’s always something, but you can tell. I also deliberately leave out the other strips for the coils. This is not a loss in terms of temperature, but many coils would like it to be a bit warmer. So you’ll have to experiment to see if it tends to promote or minimize coil whine (I didn’t have any). Depending on the coil variant. The normal pads are ok, from the middle price shelf and thus also better than those from EK.
As a paste, Alphacool supplies a small OEM tube with Subzero. This is more than enough for one-time application. I use here again as always the proven sausage method, this has already proven itself with the Ampere cards and works also with the large Ada chip excellently.
For the measurements I do without the backplate, because by means of control measurement it has been confirmed that it does not bring at my temperatures and does not change anything in the result. Alphacool relies on spring screws and thick, soft rubber washers for the GPU area. This is the first time I’ve seen this with the rubbers, but it works.
The backplate, when screwed into place, should have some cooling pads on it, but these are actually completely pointless, as we’ll see in a moment with the IR control picture. This could have been left out completely. But anyway, it eats no bread and soothes the anxious soul.
Bolt and be happy. That’s all you really need to do. However, you should tightly close the unused openings with the two supplied blanking plugs. Hand tight and with the plastic tool. Just don’t use sturdy tools, because then it will crunch faster than you’d like. And the slot bezel could have been a single-slot design as well. Good, it stabilizes the construct a bit this way, but some users will certainly not like it this way.
It took me less than 10 minutes for the complete assembly and even a layman could easily do it in less than 20 minutes. Let’s call it user-friendly. And if we are honest and hide the brown marked bag: I am still looking for the hook.
