You don’t always have to test high-end audio when it comes to reviews for a clearly defined target group, which today is very young for a change. Because if it’s not the squeaky-colorful plastic clutter for the group between 3 and 12 years, then you can even do the ears of the kids and the environment a favor. With Kidz Audio’s portable speakers, you get functionality and sustainability as a gift if you’re willing to spend between 120 and 130 euros or wait for a cheaper offer.
In times where graphics cards cost more than ten times as much, affordable products should be presented for a change, even if the price of this speaker could easily be undercut by various cheap imports. However, this would only work with a lot of compromises and cuts that completely contradict my private lifestyle. You don’t have to be an eco-extremist, but everyone can do their bit to help prevent the accumulation of even more superfluous plastic in the home.
The price sounds like a lot at first, and I thought my piece when I ordered it – but in the end I liked the part so much that I made a review out of a potential Christmas gift. I have two tots myself and already started very consciously years ago to emphatically thin out the usual plastic desert in the children’s room. Apart from the obligatory Lego collector’s bin, there’s not much left and you’re always shocked by the amount of useless and unfortunately not very durable junk that accumulates.
And unfortunately we know enough about the plastic, because after the (usually much too short) use the question arises, where to put it? Because many also interpret the yellow garbage can completely wrong. The search was for exactly the opposite, i.e. an object that is as sustainable as possible, easy to use, offers natural listening pleasure and should optionally also have an integrated microphone. If possible, the audio source should be a freely recordable USB stick, which can also remain in the device for children, or an external source such as the parents’ smartphone or older siblings via Bluetooth. But they are not always within reach. And you can always give it away later.
Sustainability and scope of delivery
I had already tested the Wavemaster Cube and Cube Mini a long time ago and therefore know how a bamboo body treated with linseed oil feels. Namely, pleasant, warm and above all: natural. You get a portable speaker that still turns out quite light and where at least the carrying handles made of food-safe silicone can be adjusted a bit to the gender or the preferences of the offspring. It’s not possible to do it completely without plastic, but the dimensions have been reduced to the bare minimum. This also applies to the USB charging cable, which fits the PC or any commercially available USB plug-in power supply (type A) that offers at least 1A charging current.
Inside (I’ll come back to that in a moment) is a standard, replaceable 3.7 volt lithium-ion battery. Mind you: connectors, not soldered connections. The optional rubber feet should not be used by very small children because their little fingers could get them off and put them in their mouths. The rest, on the other hand, is nibble- and drool-proof, as there is no mains connection and removable parts. The included, trilingual manual made of recycled paper is sufficient, the outer packaging 100% a case for the blue garbage can. So that already fits, because there are no sachets either. Thank you.
Unboxing, look and feel
Everything is quickly unpacked and ready to use after the first charge (my device was not fully pre-charged). With 160 x 150 x 150 mm, the part isn’t really bulky either and with 1289 grams, it isn’t heavy either. Even a 3-year-old child can still move this well. The rounded corners and edges of the bamboo case feel slightly rough, but anything but unpleasant. Who can and wants, may here also once again carefully (!) Apply some linseed oil, then one has free of charge also the matching smell.
I indulged myself in the fun and found the result in the end even better than the original. However, it is not a must, but good against extreme influences and for the nose. And it deters also Schleckermäuler with security something more, the geschmacklich linseed oil stands rather not on the wish menu.
Before I go into more detail on the second page, there is also the user manual as a service for the reader. These in turn can be found on the homepage.

Unfortunately, the product is only offered on Amazon (at least at first click), which does not bother me personally as a Prime customer, but even suits me. Others may not see it that way, but it is what it is. By the way, the link to the product is not an affiliate link (for the sake of completeness).
