Conclusion
Let us now come to the conclusion. Who needs a stream deck, do I need it as a non-streamer and who needs it at all? This question(s) cannot be answered in a blanket way! In principle, all functions of the Stream Deck could probably also be realized somehow by macros or key assignments, whereby the usability, the comfort and also the presentation would of course clearly fall by the wayside.
For example, I’m not a streamer and create mostly text-based content like this article. As a gamer and hardware enthusiast, I also play a lot and like to keep an eye on the condition of my components. Because Stream Deck is so variable, and also because there is a large community that creates its own functions using software development kits in the form of easy-to-install plugins, you can implement virtually any function you can think of.
So, as already shown in detail on page 3, I have assigned comfort functions to the Stream Deck, such as switching the audio output, and have the LCD buttons show me the temperatures of my components. Thanks to this flexible and customizable feature set, the Stream Deck+ can thus become quite an attractive device even for non-streamers, which can contribute significantly to the comfortable operation of the computer.
There are almost only positive things to report about the device itself and its implementation. The workmanship is on a very high level, as is typical for Elgato, and except for the somewhat “hollow” sounding keys, everything feels very high-quality. The range of functions is practically limitless thanks to the community plug-ins, and the possibility of multiple assignments allows you to place an unimaginable amount of functions on the available buttons and knobs. For streamers, the integration of the other Elgato devices like the Keylight should also be very interesting and even as a non-streamer, I enjoy the convenience that the Stream Deck+ provides. Whether you really need all that and whether it is worth more than 200€, you have to decide for yourself at the end of the day. As an enthusiast, however, you are constantly tinkering with your setup and a stream deck is quite a nice addition.
