As always, an RTX 3090 Founders Edition from Nvidia is used for the gaming tests, with maximized temperature and power consumption limits, for the lowest possible GPU bottleneck. The performance data is recorded with Nvidia Frameview 1.2, based on the open-source software Presentmon. Since Cyberpunk has lost its significance in past tests and also its relevance among many gamers, there is a new game title instead. Assetto Corsa Competizione is a racing simulation that places a high value on accurate physics and sets high standards in multiplayer, even for the fastest CPUs. The other two titles Shadow of the Tomb Raider and CS:GO remain with us.
Gaming QHD
In Assetto Corsa Competitizione, faster RAM is at least measurable even in QHD, whereas manually optimized subtimings still give you a clear additional advantage. The EXPO configurations are in the midfield, with the JEDEC settings and the 2:1 variant just behind them. In CSGO and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, no differences can effectively be measured in 1440p anymore, because the new Zen 4 generation with its additionally larger L3 cache is superior to the GPU here and the bottleneck always remains filled.
I also include the frame time variances for completeness, but here the cache makes the RAM more or less irrelevant.
Gaming FHD
If you are still gaming in 1080p and want to buy a Ryzen 7000 CPU, ACC is a good reason to at least use RAM with EXPO profile, since otherwise 10-15 FPS can be lost. The Infinity Fabric also has a negligible influence here. In the other titles, the differences are again relatively small, but at least now measurable.
There is nothing to complain about in the frame time variances, even in 1080p, because Zen 4’s large cache puts the RAM out of work again here.
