Variable Overdrive @ 240 Hz fixed Refresh Rate
That the PG279QM is capable of fast response times with almost no overshoot is now beyond question. But what is even more important for most gamers: Can the monitor reproduce the relationship between fast pixel response and overshoot across the entire range of frame rates? I’ll leave you with the slides, because what you’re about to see doesn’t need to be commented on in detail.
Attention: The fact that the response time measurements sometimes go into the red is due to the fact that the table/slide uses the reference to 240 Hz (4.1 ms). In reality, the refresh window at e.g. 80 or 60 Hertz/FPS is somewhere else. I’m testing here whether Adaptive Sync works on the one hand and whether an Overdrive setting is sufficient for all situations on the other.

The ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM is one of the best IPS gaming monitors you can currently buy. Its motion clarity is excellent, and that over a bandwidth of 60 to 240 Hz. The PG279QM always stays below 15% average overshoot and especially the low peaks of max. 37% overshoot underline this. I can understand that ASUS did not include strobing (ELMB) here. If you are sitting in front of this monitor, you should definitely take a look at the UFO test. The PG279QM has the smoothness and motion clarity, but does it also have the necessary responsiveness in terms of latencies?
