Fan HUB
Of course, all the RGB effects and the fans also want to be controlled. For this, Corsair includes the full-fledged Commander Pro in the set.
Six fans, two RGB hubs and four temperature sensors can be controlled at this hub. Corsair has thought along with the HUB and gives us two more USB pin headers, because the Commander Pro steals one of these connectors on the motherboard.
In order for the whole thing to work, we also need the in-house, proprietary Corsair ICUE software, which allows us to smoothly implement all of this for the fans, CPU block, pump, and whatever else is available from Corsair.
XL8 Coolant and Filling Aid
But that was not all. Corsair has really thought of everything here and included a bottle with one liter of clear coolant and a filling bottle. The coolant has all the additives needed to protect the loop from corrosion (and algae formation). The whole thing is also enough, but only for the current loop. Who wants to expand further, should get another bottle on reserve, because mixing impossible.
Whether you then use the bottle or not, everyone must know for themselves. A funnel is faster to fill, but does not fit in every build and is not quite as accurate.
Summary and first conclusion
The RRP is quite steep and of course you pay for company label and logo properly on it. However, if you were to buy the components separately, you would be about 105 Euros more. So if you need and are looking for Corsair, you can save quite a bit here. EK’s Classic Set is half the price, but firstly, its performance isn’t really great and secondly, it’s missing a few things. Corsair’s bending tool is a positive feature, because it really includes everything you need for a perfect bend.
Other manufacturers should take a leaf out of their book, because such a kit is usually bought by newcomers and those who like to experiment in the early stages. The workmanship is good and beyond any doubt, the feel and look are quite right. The fact that everything has to be controlled via iCUE is, well, a matter of acquiescence. But the Corsair-affine friends of light objects around and in the PC will of course be happy, because if RAM, mouse, keyboard and headphones are also controlled, then the use of such a large software package is put into perspective again a bit.
To condemn the set as an expensive, but extremely colorful toy would be too short-sighted, because in the end everything fits like a glove. So the price is one thing, because it would certainly be much cheaper to get the bending set yourself and use components from other manufacturers. However, this requires a lot of basic knowledge that not everyone has, which means that Corsair has a good grip on its target group: An all-round carefree package with a certain quality standard costs a lot. And if you want to spare your nerves, you’ll gladly pay a little more. Wellness has never really been cheap, unfortunately.
