Ear cushions like sofa cushions
To get to the inside, the ear pads have to come off first. After all, 9.5 cm outer diameter (6 cm inner) and 2 cm height stand for rather medium-sized cushions. The velour cover is certainly a matter of taste, but at least not an extreme sweat driver, because it does not stick. This can be left alone, especially since the pads are still quite well contoured for their design. It’s hard to say how long this will last. The OneOdio Monitor 80 was clamped on the artificial head for a total of 5 days for break-in and I wore it several times later as well – so far everything still fits. But I’ll write something about the replacement in a moment.
The back looks unspectacular and you can see the folded ring made of PU leatherette, which is very easy to screw into the receiver of the shells. So you don’t have to pull or tug, it works quite well with the threading aid on the body (we’ll see that in a moment). The width of the folded edge is about 0.5 cm, which is important to know when looking for replacement pads. So inside you need to plan about 8.5 cm opening, which is provided with a textile covering.
And after the padding is removed, the actual (still closed) ear cup is exposed. We can now see the insertion for the padding (arrow) near the joint attachment, the cover of the shell with the driver (speaker) was fixed with five small screws and is covered with black fleece both in the inner part above the driver and on the outside (air openings). Acoustically, this still makes sense, as we will see in the measurements.
Now let’s move on to the interior. We see the asymmetrically inserted 40 mm neodymium driver with the mentioned 250 ohms, which is stuck in a ring made of ABS, which then also reaches the opposite side in the shell up to the foam damping and sits there loosely. At the same time, the damping visually closes the open back with the perforated grid. The sound from the outside therefore reaches the ear through the back and the openings of the cover covered with fleece (see picture on the left) slightly muffled, which is not detrimental to the hearing impression.
The rest of the shells are self-explanatory and the soldering is also largely free of criticism. However, the price pressure is noticeable in some details, but apparently there is no other way. However, the overall picture remains positive, despite the plastic desert and glue.
