Volume flow vs. sound pressure level
All the measurements against the only half as expensive be quiet! Light Wings HS 120 have already shown that the Razer Kunai Chroma never stood a chance in a direct comparison and almost completely failed on the radiators. And because I was so disappointed, I’m also spiteful enough to add the Arctic P12’s 5-euro measurement curve to the graphics to make the humiliation perfect. From about 40 cfm, the cheap fan is absolutely equal in terms of volume and performance, and in the end, from about 55 cfm, it is even significantly quieter than the overpriced 40-euro product, even if the curve below 40 cfm is not quite as even. The curve of the be quiet! However, Light Wings is by far the best here.
If you install the Razer Kunai Chroma, you should also pay attention to structure-borne noise and vibrations because of the pronounced humming. They can quickly find a resonator and then put the fan acoustically on the sidelines, even if the fan is decoupled to some extent. After all, things like this are precisely the reason why we work with a large-volume and very rigid chamber rather than a thin and long wind tunnel. This also applies to the end user, who may please pay attention to a good decoupling here.
Volume flow and speeds
Looking at the next graph, the curve is similarly balanced to that of the reference fan. The almost linear rise up to about 45 cfm is quite good, and the curve at the upper end does not flatten out significantly either. And you also beat the reference as a pure case fan in the total speeds, whereby the Razer Kunai Chroma is significantly louder. I don’t even want to start again with the radiators, because this will again become a humiliation.
Conclusion
The fan does not cut a bad figure as a case fan, were it not for the unreasonably high price. Of course, you have to be that fair in your conclusion. But it’s simply not good enough for more than use as a pressureless case fan. The total failure on thicker radiators due to the design flaw is not made up for by the high speeds either, and when there is back pressure, the fan gets even louder than it already is. As already written several times: Here, the fan’s own price gets in the way. This Midas edition from Razer has simply lost nothing in the upper class in terms of performance. There is no need to discuss that, so we have a non-purchase recommendation for this, which Pascal has personally summarized visually for you:
Humming is the next topic that doesn’t sweep you off your feet. And that with the specs you can only free hang and then even come close. I really don’t understand how Power Logic could make such a mistake and release such an unbalanced product into the wild. Visually, it may all make sense for marketing, but it’s better not to use the parts. It’s like working with long, glued-on fingernails. It works somehow, looks nice, but it drags along so laboriously…
