Technical data
First, the technical data in tabular form.
Features
Here are the key features of the new ONE 3 series keyboards
Hot-Swappable Switches
The switches can be pulled out of the board in no time and replaced with all Cherry MX and Kailh Socket Switches – without soldering.
Removable USB Type-C cable
The detachable, textile-sheathed USB cable with gold-plated connectors enables a polling rate of 1000Hz and does not immediately cause a total failure of the entire keyboard in case of a cable break.
Sleek Bezel Design
The elegant construction is designed so that the keycaps are completely visible (in case you want to install transparent or “pudding” caps), but the switches themselves are not exposed.
3-way feet
Of course, the feet of the ONE 3 can again be folded out in two stages to create a total of three different angles.
QUACK Mechanics
Ducky places special emphasis on the so-called QUACK Mechanics, which were introduced as part of the ONE 3 series. In particular, these include the following three points:
TRUE ⚬ PBT
Only the highest quality materials are used in QUACK Mechanics keyboards. The keycaps are cast in double-shot technology and feature a “frosted” surface, which is supposed to make the keys extremely resistant to wear and prevent the speckly shine of frequently pressed keys.
Optimized design
The weight distribution with the lower center of gravity gives the keyboard more stability in dicey situations and should prevent slipping.
Authentic acoustics
An insulation system consisting of several layers is supposed to reduce the inherent noise of the installed switches to a minimum. Even under the PCB, an insulating layer was mounted to reduce resonances of the housing.
Comparison with the predecessor
Compared to the predecessor, the haptics could be improved significantly. The ONE 2 already felt very sturdy overall, but still had minor build flaws like the keycaps not being deburred and some slightly sharper edges on the case. With the ONE 3, Ducky has tackled exactly these points, which leads to a much higher-quality overall impression. The rounded case shape looks a bit heavier and more stable, the rough “frosted” surface gives the keyboard a more refined feel, and the deburred keycaps now match the keyboard’s premium claim much better.
Current measurement
There were no abnormalities in the current measurement. The USB specs are met with ample buffering, and since the ONE 3’s voltage drops a bit as the current increases, I never measured more than 3.5W of power draw in any situation.
