Optics and haptics
The design of the GK71 Sonic is quite simple. Hardly any design elements worth mentioning can be seen in the front and rear view. Matte black plastic with silver accents dominates the look.
There is no USB passthrough here, but since the keyboard is content with USB 2.0, such a port would probably be a bit lame anyway. As you can see in the next pictures, the volume control is also easily accessible from the right side. There are no special features on the left.
The keys are slightly angled even without the feet open. If that’s not enough, you can extend the non-slip rubber feet to increase the angle a bit more.
And speaking of non-slip rubber, there’s plenty more of it on the underside of the keyboard. Especially the palm rest has been well taken care of with pads so that it cannot slip easily. Various cable ducts allow the hidden routing of the various peripheral cables.
Here again is a close-up of the media control. The aforementioned volume wheel has a button integrated on the top that can mute the sound output. By the way, the symbol rotates, so that it is sometimes upside down. A bit messy, but this also allows the knob itself to be turned to adjust the volume in 2% increments.
Overall, the keyboard is well manufactured and makes a high-quality impression.
