Actually, already after “editorial deadline”, another copy of the eagerly awaited title “God of War” reached me. Behind the scenes, it was rumored to be an extremely successful port. The title is supposed to look much better on PC and also run much smoother thanks to FSR and DLSS. Of course, we want to take a closer look at that and therefore mainly look at the technical finesse of the blockbuster.
There’s probably not much more to write about the game itself. When it was released for Playstation 4 in 2018, it received dream ratings and quickly became one of the best-selling PS4 games of all time. Strictly speaking, it is already the eighth title in the God of War series, which follows on from a part from 2010 in terms of content. Planned more as a kind of “reboot”, one has now taken leave of Greek mythology and dedicated oneself to Norse mythology instead.
At this point, I’ll only briefly touch on what the game is about, because here at Igor’s Lab we primarily want to deal with the technical aspects of the game. After our hero Kratos settled accounts with the gods of Olympus years ago, he and his family ended up in Midgard. When his wife dies, it is her last will that their mutual son Atreus scatter her ashes on the highest peak of all the Nine Worlds. Despite the hard training, however, Atreus is not yet ready to face this adventure alone and so Kratos has to swing the axe himself once again.
On the journey there are lots of small puzzles and minigames to solve:
Making mysterious encounters:
Survive mysterious encounters:
Plenty to shred:
And overall to experience a grandiose staged game:
I will of course include a conclusion about the gameplay and the story on the last page of the article.
