Summary and conclusion
Of course, the offered performance can’t be evaluated conclusively for a barebone, since you’re responsible for it yourself, but I could get a good impression of everything else. Even though I don’t like the piano finish on the front at all, as already mentioned, I can’t find any points of criticism in the workmanship itself. All visible parts are cleanly painted, edges cleanly deburred and overall you get a quality impression.
And the CPU cooler could also convince, at least with the 10th generation i5 installed here. Generation. Even though the system is never completely silent and sometimes becomes clearly audible under longer load, neither the volume nor the “humming” noise characteristics are really disturbing.
What still worries me a bit about cooling is not the processor, but the graphics card. In general, the air supply is possible through the side holes, but still very limited. If you then compare the side panel of the SH570R8 with the side panel of the SH570R6, there would have been “still some air” in the truest sense of the word.
A price comparison to build it yourself is a bit difficult, but I took the 13.6 liter volume of the SH570R as a guideline and tried to put together something suitable.
By the way, we also have an article for a very similar system in this case:
Mini ITX Office-PC with Intel Core i5-11400 in Sharkoon QB One
According to the press release of the manufacturer, the recommended retail price for the XPC Barebone SH570R6 (300 Watt PSU) is 412€, for the SH570R6 Plus (500 Watt PSU) 471€. Shortly after the release, the prices in stores were already 369€ and 409€, respectively, which is significantly below the RRP of both models. Compared to the self-construction from standard parts, the barebone is still a good deal higher in price. The extra price could be justified by the even smaller size, double the number of RAM slots as well as possibility for 128GB of RAM. A 5.25″ bay is also very rarely found in this form factor. Being able to connect three 4K monitors without a dedicated graphics card is also a nice feature. A notable disadvantage is of course still the “old” socket LGA1200, whereby the 10th and 11th socket are not used. Generation Intel CPUs also have a lot to offer.
So in the end, it’s a personal consideration as to what extent the “luxury” offered by a prepared barebone in combination with the possibilities in a small space are worth the extra cost.
