Bugs and problems
Of course, this game is not completely free of bugs at release. At the beginning especially the network mode caused problems. Apparently, Giants was not prepared for the rush despite the enormous number of pre-orders, which is why not even the registration worked reliably on the first days after the release. Finding a rented server was almost impossible and it took a few days until at least that was possible without any problems. A buddy on PS5, despite having crossplay (players on Playstation, XBOX, and PC can play together), could only join our rented server on every tenth to twentieth attempt, only to fly right back out with a disconnect after a few seconds. As of now, almost three weeks after release, there doesn’t seem to be a fix for this yet, which is a real shame.
Also incredibly annoying are the buggable palettes. These tend to sink fully or partially into the ground, making them virtually inaccessible. The result is pallets scattered all over the map as the game progresses, most of which can’t be picked up again or can only be picked up again with a lot of patience and even more time. Very frustrating and not very authentic. At one point the bugged pallets directly deformed the terrain!
Otherwise, it’s mostly trivia, most of which is also pretty funny. For example, the player models always have the chainsaw in their hands the wrong way round, the pigs sometimes just bolt through the fence and dash around the enclosure like savages, only to run through the mud in slow motion the next moment. Also incorrectly folding cultivators, which then get totally tangled up and have to be reset at the dealer, are among the everyday little annoyances of the virtual hobby farmer.
Modding
Probably the most important aspect of any farming simulator. In addition to the extensive mod hub, where more or less “approved” free and paid mods can be obtained from the manufacturer, there is also a gigantic modding community with an almost endless supply of vehicles, buildings, maps and whatever else the heart desires. As far as I know, the only modding possible on the consoles is via the mod hub. In the last part, for example, we drove over the field with the Simson S51 and tried to pull a big plough with the old Lanz Bulldog.
