Writing feeling and sound check
First of all: For the comparison test of individual switches I had four keyboards on my desk in the meantime and almost went mad with clicking.
First, a quick word about SGK3. I worked with this one for a few days to get a feel for the red Kailh Switches. So far I only knew linear switches from Cherry – the red MX switches in the LED and in the RGB variant. Compared to the Cherry MX Red, the Kailh Red in the Sharkoon SGK3 don’t feel significantly, but noticeably different. They require a bit more pressure and the keys are noticeably quieter on impact than my MX Red derivative. Although the stroke sounds a bit “hollow” in the Sharkoon, this annoying “spring noise” is completely missing, which you can always hear quite clearly when typing quickly with the MX Red switches. Overall, a very nice typing feel and neither in gaming nor in word processing does it have to hide behind the linear switches of the industry leader.

After working with the “small” SGK3 for a few days, I took a closer look at the new SGK60. As mentioned above, this is exactly the main focus of the SGK60. While the Kailh BOX Switches in question are relatively widespread in the DIY (do it yourself) and custom scene, they are rarely used in production models. Which is actually a shame, because after using them for a while, I dare say they are superior to the regular Kailh Red Switches in some ways. Even though the differences are marginal, they can be felt even by a rather gross-motor user like me. The BOX Switches are easier to press down and have a slightly shorter distance to the stop point. In addition, the BOX Switches also feel a bit smoother to press, especially when you don’t hit the key perfectly in the middle, and offer more stability when the key is depressed. The sound of the regular Kailh Red switches also differs significantly from the BOX switches, but I don’t know if this is due to the construction of the keyboard or really the switches, but while the regular switches in the SGK3 sound somewhat “hollow” at full stop, I would describe the sound of the BOX switches in the SGK60 as rather “rich” at full stop. Maybe this can be seen in the soundfiles.
