As CPUs become faster and faster, the main memory must be able to keep up with the volume of data to not become a bottleneck. For the same reason, the upcoming generation of Intel CPUs will also rely on the new DDR5 standard, which is supposed to bring more bandwidth through higher clock speed and at the expense of latency compared to DDR4. With the DDR4-5333 Fury Renegade kit from today’s review, Kingston already gives us a taste of what we can expect at the end of this year. We’ll also find out how big of an impact the higher latency really has in today’s test.
Introduction and SKUs
If previous leaks are to be believed, Alder Lake will use a memory controller that is pin compatible with DDR4 and DDR5. Depending on the mainboard, in which one installs a 12th gen CPUs, one can then choose between the new and old memory standard. All the more reason for us to take a particularly close look at the kit from today’s review and its overclocking potential.
By the way, Kingston has recently separated from the HyperX brand, under which the RAM products were also classified for a while. So really correct is Kingston Fury Renegade DDR4 for the product name of the kit in today’s review. In addition to Renegade, there is also the slightly cheaper Fury Beast series, both with and without RGB options, and even a SO-DIMM line of notebook RAM called Fury Impact. At this point I would already like to commend Kingston for their website, where it is very easy to find the exact product information for the individual SKUs. The spec sheet linked behind the part number even contains information about the number of ranks, the programmed XMP profiles, exact physical dimensions of the modules and much more.
