EVGA’s Z590 Dark is probably one of the most sought-after XOC motherboards for the current generation of Intel CPUs, not least because of its uncompromising design, legendary reputation and limited availability of its predecessors. Whether EVGA has created a worthy successor with the project name “E599” to also fire Intel’s Rocket Lake CPUs to the top of all benchmark rankings, we find out today.
Overview and Features
If you’ve ever seen a “Dark” motherboard from EVGA, you’ll immediately recognize the model based on the Z590 platform. The strongest feature is probably the CPU socket rotated by 90° and thus also the shift of the RAM slots from the right to the upper edge of the board. With this special layout, clock frequencies of 5333 “MHz” should then be achievable on the main memory. But also for the overclocking of the CPU all conceivable measures were taken to squeeze the last megahertz out of each chip. EVGA advertises a “21 phase” voltage reulation with a 100% copper heatsink, additionally cooled by two 40mm PWM fans behind the IO panel.
Control and overview is provided by the 4-digit multifunction display, on-board Start, Reset, Clear CMOS and Safe Boot buttons, the latter loading the last working BIOS profile without having to reset all settings. In addition, there are also two “ProbeIt” connectors for external monitoring of all conceivable voltages on the board during benchmarking.
But also the daily use and the installation in a case EVGA has not less features to offer. Two Intel 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, Intel WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, three M.2 slots with a massive heatsink, dual SLI support, right-angled connectors all around for the cleanest possible cable management, and more should fulfill just about every wish.
To start with, EVGA is asking 619 Euros for their LGA1200 top model in their German online shop, which also puts them a bit above the competition in the extreme overclocking segment. The availability of the Dark models in Europe has historically always been somewhat limited and so it’s not surprising that the Z590 Dark is also currently barely available or even listed in etail shops. So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank EVGA for kindly providing us with a retail sample of the board.
