Summary
Push or pull? Today’s test has shown that a proper fan actually masters both situations easily and in the end, if you are really subject to spatial restrictions, there are no compromises in terms of volume flow even in pull mode. If you’re lucky, it’s even quieter. Push-pull is only really worthwhile on radiator thicknesses of 45 mm and more, and only on a 60 mm radiator can you beat single-fan setups more clearly. But this only works if you don’t reduce the revs too much.
What you could also see is that two fans at 1000 rpm each in push-pull doesn’t come close to a single fan at 2000 rpm. So if you intend to make a lot of wind, you shouldn’t throttle the fans too much even in push-pull. When it comes to noise, on the other hand, it’s interesting to note that two fans don’t necessarily have to be that much louder than just one, especially with rather thin radiators. The radiator that sucks in relieves the radiator that pushes in from the front and there is also no summation of the motor and tear-off noises.
Conclusion
Of course, fans with cheaper or worse bearings will perform significantly worse in such a test, because there are even specimens that already acknowledge a hanging installation with more noise and / or worse performance. This also applies to pull operation, where it really depends on the fan quality of the drive and bearing. I guess we’ll get a follow-up with negatives as we continue to work through our current inventory. So one can remain curious.
