Details on package identification
The so-called “marking format” is only a small side note, but since I have received questions about marking again and again, I want to quickly cover this point as well. There’s no need to keep on rolling this out, as the following chart is a good guide there (as of 2020, for Navi23/24):
Summary
As a notebook graphics, a Radeon RX 6600 XT certainly doesn’t cut a bad figure, but as a desktop solution for gamers, you have to limit it a bit. Since I refuse to mine, also for personal reasons, I have left this part out completely and will continue to do so in the future. As a pure gamer card in Full HD resolution, this card will certainly be able to compete easily with an older Radeon RX 5700XT, as long as you use it in a system with 4th generation PCIe operates.
However, anything less than that will most likely limit this card too much, making it almost completely uninteresting for upgraders with actually still potent platforms. AMD can’t be blamed for relying on a uniform solution for notebooks and desktops and keeping the mobile variants adaptable with a variable TGP. It is therefore only logical that such restrictions are made, also in view of the upcoming changes up to PCIe 5.0 for the PC platforms, even if it certainly hurts some people. However, Intel is also to blame for this misery, since they have steadfastly refused PCIe 4.0 for such a long time. Those who rely on one of the newer Ryzen platforms have a much easier time of it.
Conclusion
So it will be interesting to see what else AMD will offer to round out the portfolio on the downside. How fast all this will be and where the actual performance will be in practice, we have to wait and see. The currently leaked performance data is not enough to really make an objective judgement, also not in view of the limitation by PCIe and only 8 lanes. That’s why I didn’t include them, just like colocated hash rates here, and am patiently waiting for the finished product.
