Optics and haptics
To extend the own assortment with already known coolers with new paint seems to be fashionable at the moment, just like generally coolers in black. Scythe is very meticulous here, apart from the logo, everything has been thoroughly painted down to the last screw.
As should already be known from the other versions of the Mugen 5, they rely on an asymmetrical design with a heatsink slightly offset to the rear. The slats have two holes in the middle through which you can reach the rear screw during assembly. The second hole leads to a screw above the coldplate which holds the bracket in place.
As you can see quite well below, the included 120mm fan is apparently a bit too big. However, when the Mugen 5 BE is installed, the screw under the fan frees up enough space to install the Kaze Flex almost seamlessly to the top edge.
A look at the bottom side shows the second non-black part of the cooler: The slightly dirty coldplate of my specimen. By the way, after wiping it with isopropanol once, it shone again, as it should.
Aside from the production residue, there is nothing wrong with the Scythe Mugen 5 Black Edition as far as manufacturing is concerned. Whether all corners and edges have been carefully deburred cannot be determined by the painting, but is also made superfluous by it.
