Summary
What does AMD bring to the Radeon graphics card owner with the new driver and software? A lot of new or upgraded features. The driver installation down to the absolute minimum should be emphasized here. Furthermore, AMD Link for Windows 10 is now coming, a thoroughly exciting app that was not at all on my radar until now. Interesting! Recording and streaming will also appeal to some people, if that’s what they’re interested in. Metrics is a feature that I also like to use from time to time, as it can be activated via hotkeys at any time. The extension regarding the CPU data is a good thing, although it can get a bit confusing if you really show everything on the overlay. But it’s up to each person to decide how to configure it.
The most important new feature for me is the anti-lag support for DX12, although I’m not sure if this only works for RX 6000 cards or also for older models. There will be a special article on this anyway and we will find out more there. We will also take a closer look at Radeon Boost, although AMD has explicitly announced support for DX12 only for owners of RX 6000 graphics cards. Let’s see if it really has to stay that way! What remains to be mentioned now? For one thing, I haven’t explained all the functions in terms of how to use them here, that would be too much for a news item. However, I would like to mention that if you are interested in AMD Link, you can get more detailed information on AMD’s website. Especially those who want to use AMD Link on their smartphone or TV should get smart here. On the other hand, there is Fidelity FX. What can I say? We are all waiting for the big backlash on the DLSS issue. But here I have to disappoint you, unfortunately there is nothing new on that front! Radeon Image Sharpening (RIS) is a familiar term to many, and it visibly pretties up the details in many games. It’s definitely worth a recommendation. It costs also no noticeable achievement and/or I noticed there nix up to now!
Conclusion
Without real tests, especially regarding Anti-Lag and Radeon Boost, it will be difficult to draw a real conclusion. But postponed is not canceled! But what I really like about the 21.4.1 driver is the fact of the installation options. Furthermore, I find it very good that the older Radeon GPUs continue to enjoy support on the part of AMD and the further development of the drivers constantly increases the performance output of the graphics cards. That always speaks for AMD! The possible lack of DX12 support regarding boost and anti-lag for older graphics cards deceives – at least for me – the good mood at this point. AMD here you need to do some more soul-searching!
How good the AMD Link and streaming functions are, I cannot evaluate at this point. But AMD Link for games is particularly interesting, which I will certainly try out together with Igor. I also find the ability to easily connect to your own PC from your tablet via remote to be a super simple solution. This makes working in the home office possible even on the balcony or terrace! Finally, thanks to Igor for allowing me to write this launch article with exclusive NDA material. It was an interesting first time. So much for that.. On that note, may the discussion be open on the forum!
