Gobstopper party? Well, not quite yet, but it’s going in the “right” direction…. Let’s be surprised.
Intel Default (125 Watt / 251 Watt)
Did someone say 800 watts? Well, now you’re getting a little closer. The CPU is at full capacity, the GPU is actually still half asleep. Still, the CPU has to manage properly and it even goes up to 270 watts in peak, while the average is over 137 watts. That’s 12 watts more than PL1 specifies, but even here the value of 56 seconds is never fully utilized for dew. It wavers and ails. The power supply is happy and you can hear the crickets chirping.
You really have to let the following curve artwork melt on your tongue once. It happens in gaming, which is where you wouldn’t expect such outbursts to happen. I admit, 720p isn’t really what everyone is gaming, but even in full HD it hardly looks better. It’s a lot, actually way too much and you see a hidden crowbar at every turn. At least now we know why the thing gets so hot.
The sporadically picked 20 ms interval shows it very well: you are actually permanently above the 600 watts when it comes to critical shutdown ranges. This is of particular interest to us in multi-rail solutions, because here the EPS is fused as one rail. If there are already 300 watts or more banging into the account, then good night, Marie. This can go well if you use a purpose-built power supply or it can go wrong with a cheap supplier from the bargain counter. Then it goes clack and it gets dark. If you’re lucky.
I have this curve again also CPU-Only, here you go:
“Tower Air Cooler with 288 Watt Limit
Again, what we already noticed with the Radeon RX 6900XT applies here. The CPU runs more balanced and the spikes decrease a bit. The average is not higher, only the curve trembles a little less. So it stays about the same here as well.
This is also proven by the single curve for the CPU:
The spikes also remain rather unsuspicious and hardly anything increases compared to Intel’s default setting.
Again, we see this in the single curve. But what happens when the GPU comes fully into play? That’s exactly what happens starting on the next page!
